It’s always an exciting time in the gaming world when new consoles are released. Better graphics, brand new game titles, and increasingly integrated media services are all but guaranteed. The only downside is that, for many of us, price considerations will force us to choose one console over another. With the recent release of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 (PS4), the choice is once more upon us. “Consumers have a couple of really great choices in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4,” Industry Expert and entrepreneur Jason Hope recently said. “Ultimately, what you plan to use the device for should determine which one you pick.” Although there certainly are differences between each device, it is important to make note of the many things they have in common first.
In the past, choosing a console could be boiled down simply to whichever one carried the specific game or games one was interested in playing. Back in the early 2000s, the PlayStation 2 gained significant market share thanks to the overwhelmingly popular Grand Theft Auto series. Fortunately, for gamers, this distinction is becoming less and less relevant. An increasing percentage of game developers are developing their games for both platforms from the start. This has been aided significantly by the fact that it is far easier to create cross-platform games than ever before.
A recent Forbes article indicates that the spec differences between the Xbox One and the PS4 are “marginal”, so any decision between one console over the other PS4 or Xbox one , should be made on personal preference and the actual differences between the consoles.
